On Budget

An account status that includes it in your budget. On Budget is for cash-like accounts — checking, savings, and similar. Credit cards are not On Budget; a card lives in Payback Mode or Off Budget (see Credit Card Strategy).

  • Transactions appear as cards on the Roo screen and are swiped to pouches
  • The sum of all On Budget accounts equals the sum of all pouches — meaning your pouches are a real representation of your money, and you can trust their balances
  • On Budget accounts contribute their balances towards net worth

Even a credit card you pay in full each month is not On Budget — it lives in Payback Mode, where its spending reserves cash into your Payback Pouch as you swipe. The money to cover the statement is set aside the same way, so you can autopay the full balance and never pay interest. See Credit Card Strategy.
